Leonardo Grimaudo (born 05 October 1974 in Erice, Italy) started to play piano and guitar at the age of 8.
He attended the Conservatory of Music "A.Scontrino" in Trapani and“V.Bellini in Palermo studying with Maurizio Norrito,Guido Barbieri,Gaetano Colajanni,GiovanniSollima ,getting his degree as Maestro di chitarra in 2002. In Palermo he got in contact with many musicians playing with Sanspapier(tango music), Macchina di suoni (C.Mingus music) conductedby Marvi La Spina,and the European Jazz Big Band conducted by GuntherSchuller, Bill Russo and Dusko Goykovich. In september 2002 he moved to Groningen (Holland), where he attended the Prins Claus Conservatory (Jazz Department) studying with Winfred Buma, Anton Goudsmit, Conrad Herwig, KurtWeiss, David Berkman , Ralph Peterson, Joris Teepe, etc.... He became a Bachelorof Art(jazz guitar) in 2006. In Holland he started to work as a leader andcomposer of a band called SIBULI. With this quartet he played in many jazz Festivalssuch as Kaunas (Lithuania), Cinisi Tonnara Nuove Musiche (Sicily), MidnightExpress in Groningen and Trytone Festival in Amsterdam. Other projects are:

MANZILUNA with whom he recently released a new CD working on timbre andcompositive research into a contemporary music languages without forgettingtheir cultural roots; KATARCHESTRA an ensemble of musicians from severalcountries conducted by Kaja Draksler and playing arrangements of their folkmusic; LOE (trio)with Clemens van der Feen on bass and Kristijan Krajncan on drums.The Trio plays original compositions.The music can be described as amodern jazz and contemporary music with strong impact on electric and acoustic sounds/effects,classical and folk melodies and jazz improvisations to create different moodsand atmospheres in the same tune:a bit like an old "Suite" in whichthe dances/parts are different but with acommon bond that links all together totake you from one to another part on anextraordinary journey.
